Nevada voter-registration numbers flat in March

Nevada’s voter-registration numbers were basically flat from February to March as the number of statewide active voters increased by just 5,027.

That means there are a little more than 1.14 million active voters and 1.42 million total voters registered in the state.

Active voters are defined as those who voted in the last election. Just a hair under 41 percent are registered Democrats — 467,168 — while 35.3 percent are registered Republicans — 403,229.

That means Nevada’s 200,483 nonpartisan voters remain the key to deciding most races, with 17.6 percent of the total.

The Independent American Party has 54,583 registered voters, making up nearly 5 percent of the state’s active-voter population. The remaining 1.3 percent are in the Libertarian, Green and other minor parties.

In Carson City, there were 24,789 active voters. Republicans hold a clear lead over Demcorats with 11,005 to 8,145 active voters. Nonpartisan voters total 3,875 in the capital.

In Churchill County, a majority of the 11,690 registered actives are Republicans — 6,596. There are just 2,615 Democrats and 1,717 nonpartisans registered there.

Douglas County has 14,891 Republicans out of 28,087 registered. The 7,101 Democrats in Douglas are outnumbered by the 4,286 nonpartisan voters.
