Stremmel Gallery

Stremmel Gallery proudly presents Robert Brady’s “The 8th Trough,” an exhibition of new works through April 19.

This will mark Stremmel Gallery’s seventh exhibition featuring the Nevada-born artist. It will include latest explorations in mixed media sculpture, ceramics, and works on paper.

Local film selected for screening

“Collapse,” a dramatic feature film written and directed by Dave McCormick of Fallon, has been selected to screen at the Bare Bones International Film & Music Festival in Muskogee, Okla., in April. Showcasing the stunning scenery of Northern Nevada, the film follows two children on an uncertain journey to find safety after a disaster.

“Civilization unravels as the nation is gripped by a widespread economic catastrophe. Two young brothers find themselves orphaned in a world where the rules of society are supplanted by the need to survive.

Hyperinflation explodes, triggering a massive disruption in markets and food supplies. Forced from their home, 14-year-old Luke must protect his young brother from looters, gangs, hunger, and 1,200 miles of wilderness which stand between them and safety.

The truth of human nature is revealed by desperation. Luke and Scott face heartbreaking decisions and ethical questions as they struggle to find the will to keep each other going.”

“Collapse” is nominated for Best Sci-Fi Feature, Best Ensemble Cast in a Feature and Best Youth Actor (Aaron McCormick).

Book signing at Home & Garden Show

Fernley author Mary Jean Kelso recently returned from a trip to Texas where she and her co-author, Wendy Whiteman, participated in Alamo memorial services honoring her great-great-grandfather, Gordon Cartwright Jennings, and other Alamo heroes.

On March 1, Kelso and Whiteman released a history book with reprints of tin-types and paper photographs Kelso inherited from the Jennings and Williams families, Texas pioneers.

In 1833 Gordon Cartwright Jennings moved his family from Missouri to Mina (now Bastrop), Texas to join the Austin Colony. Three years later, he was the oldest man to die at the Battle of the Alamo.

His heirs remained in Mina and surrounding areas after his passing.

A Visual History Record of Alamo Defender Gordon Cartwright Jennings’ Family contains anecdotes and genealogy of the Jennings and Williams families as well as images from Jennings’ son, Samuel K. Jennings (one of Captain Cady’s First Mounted Texas Rangers), on down to the authors. Samuel K. Jennings’ daughter, Laura Ellen, married into another Texas pioneering family with her union to C. A. Williams. They raised four boys in Texas until 1910 when they moved to a ranch in Montana.

C.A. and Laura Ellen Williams’ second son, Thomas Jasper Williams, became Kelso’s father. Kelso will attend the Soroptimist International of Fallon 14th Annual Home, Garden and Recreation Show to sign books. Hours are April 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and April 13 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Kelso’s other 20 plus titles will be available as well.
