Only several days remain for a local spring break football camp featuring current and ex-NFL players.

Next Level Performance’s weeklong sport performance camp for youth football athletes begins on Monday in Reno. The camp runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday at the Moana field complex by the Jack Tighe baseball fields, 240 Moana Lane.

The cost is $150 per athlete and part of the proceeds will benefit Emily Reese and her battle with cancer. Each participant will also receive a T-shirt.

“Camp is looking good. We have had over a dozen kids register already and have been told of three or more teams of 10 athletes will be showing up on the day of signing,” said Tyler Simper, who played for the Greenwave and co-owns Next Level Performance with fellow grad Stephen Snyder.

Simper and Snyder will have a staff of former college and NFL stars including fellow Fallon alums Trevor de Braga and Josh Mauga, and Nevada grads Jeff Rowe and Kelvin Howell as they will help youth football athletes work on fundamentals and prepare for the upcoming season.

Simper said the talent level has varied in signups, from youngsters competing in the youth football leagues (SYFL and Pop Warner) to those who haven’t played the sport.

“It’s a great way to learn the game of football,” Simper said. “Our coaches are pumped and the kids are excited. We have done all the work and ready to blow our first camp up come Monday.”

The camp includes position-specific football training, specialized training for all positions, mental and physical conditioning, small group coaching and much more.

Simper and Snyder are both performance specialists who have helped many former Fallon athletes, including Mauga and de Braga. Mauga, who has spent his entire career with the New York Jets, is currently rehabbing and aiming to get back into the NFL next season, while de Braga is trying to land on a professional team.

Along with the four Fallon alums, Rowe and Howell both competed for the Wolf Pack with Rowe being the first quarterback to run the Pistol offense invented by Chris Ault 10 years ago. Rowe played in the NFL for Cincinnati, while Howell is now a trainer.
