Federal agencies seek public comment

Bureau of Land Management

The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, Stillwater and Sierra Front Field Offices have drafted the preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Fluid Mineral Leasing within six areas of the Carson City District.

The public is invited to comment on the plan through May 10.

The BLM is proposing to lease some or all of the oil, gas and geothermal resources at sites located in six selected areas within Churchill, Lyon, Mineral and Nye counties. There are 30 proposed parcels for leasing in the upcoming September 2014 Oil and Gas Lease Sale, which cover an area of approximately 56,269 acres.

The pending lease applications encompass BLM managed lands that are open to fluid mineral leasing.

Stillwater NWRC

An informal gathering on Thursday will allow residents to know the latest news for the refuge, review the past waterfowl season and offer an early outlook for this fall, along with any proposed habitat, maintenance, public use and other projects and programs planned for the Stillwater Complex.

The time is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Stillwater NWRC office, 1020 New River Parkway, #305.

And this is a chance to advise the NWRC know how they’re doing, what they could do better, what’s working, offer new ideas and suggestions to help the agency improve and make this a refuge that offers something for everyone.

If residents are not able to make the meeting, please submit ideas, suggestions, comments on the past waterfowl season and any non-hunting activities they may have done, or any questions about future refuge plans. Send to NWRC by noon Thursday for discussion at the meeting.

As always, the public’s input is much appreciated and valued in helping the NWRC work toward a better refuge experience for everyone.
