The Salvation Army is in the middle of their Red Kettle fundraising season and is thankful for the faithful volunteers of the Kiwanis Club of Carson City who have been standing a kettle for the Army for more years than either organization can remember. The Kiwanis volunteers will be out at Smith’s, 599 E. William St., on Saturdays leading up to Christmas. In 2013, they raised $1,567.46 for the Army.

The Army is also excited about their newest volunteer bell ringers. Carson City Supervisor Jim Shirk and his daughter, Lila, volunteered Saturday morning at JC Penney’s in the Southgate Mall. Shirk said it was something he had always wanted to do and they both really enjoyed the experience. Two-hour to eight-hour volunteer slots are available. If you would like to volunteer this season as an individual, a family, a service or work group you can contact Jennifer Carboni at the Carson City Salvation Army, at 775-887-9120.

The Salvation Army of Carson City provides Services to Carson City, Dayton and Douglas County for more than 18,000 people each year helping with school supplies, emergency food and lodging, utilities, holiday assistance, Summer Day Camp, Before School Care, and Summer Camp.
