Super Bowl watching

During its 48-year evolution, Super Bowl parties have become the social event of the year, whether groups decided to have their party at a friend’s house or venture to one of the local watering holes.

This year’s matchup, though, between two western teams with strong fan bases in Nevada, should make the beverages and food flow as well as the sports betting.

Pizza Barn, which hosted a tailgate to kick off the University of Nevada football season against UCLA last year, is gearing up for Super Bowl with its numerous widescreen TVs.

According to owner Roger Dedrichsen, Pizza Barn at 1981 W. Williams Ave., is featuring Happy Hour for the entire day and $4 off on any large or extra size pizza with a coupon from the LVN’s “Around Our Valley Dining and Entertainment” page.

Sandwinds will be hopping on Super Bowl Sunday with food and drink specials and appetizers as well as giveaways during the game. Giveaway items include T-shirts, ballcaps and plug-in coolers.

Fallon’s premier sports bar on 1120 Taylor Place features six widescreen TVs, and either during the game or at halftime, patrons can shoot pool, play darts or games.

Jack’s Place, 30 E. Center St., celebrates its 26th annual Super Bowl feed. This year’s party begins at 1 p.m. with food and drink specials and a potluck.

Overland Hotel and Saloon, 125 E. Center St., is having a Super Bowl party beginning at 3 p.m. and serving Mexican food. The game will be broadcast on two televisions.

The Headquarters Bar, 134 S. Maine St., will show the Super Bowl on three televisions.

The Nugget, 70 S. Maine St., will be showing the Super Bowl in its bar.

The Bonanza Casino at 855 W. Williams Ave., will show the game in its bar.

Stockman’s Casino, 1560 W. Williams Ave., will show the game on its two large televisions.

The Depot, 875 W. Williams Ave., has two big-screen televisions and four smaller ones.
