A national award will go to the plant manager at Carson City’s Click Bond, recognizing her as a manufacturing leader deserving of a Women in Manufacturing STEP Award.

Laurie Shakley on Feb. 6 will be among the 160 recipients nationwide of the women in industry Science, Technology, Engineering and Production (STEP) award from the Manufacturing Institute. This is the second set of such awards and Shakley follows Collie Hutter, Click Bond president, into the winner’s circle after Hutter previously received the same recognition.

Click Bond designs and makes adhesive-bonded fastening solutions for the global aerospace, marine and transit vehicle sectors.

“It is a great honor to be receiving the Women in Manufacturing STEP Award,” Shakley said in a news release. “I am humbled to be recognized along with so many other outstanding women who have made our industry and our nation stronger.”

Hutter said Click Bond was proud of Shakley’s contributions to the company and manufacturing.

“Her career is proof that manufacturing continues to provide wonderful opportunities to develop one’s skills and career path,” she said.

Jennifer McNeily, Manufacturing Institute president, said in a news release from her Washington, D.C., office Monday that the STEP awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative to promote the role of women in manufacturing. She said the 160 women honored are the faces of exciting careers in their field.
