Artist Suzanne Kanatsiz will be on hand Feb. 7 at the Carson City opening of an exhibit showing her Seven Sennings series of large drawings inspired by wild mountain oriental sages.

Carson City Arts Initiative will hold a reception for the artist from 5-7 p.m. There is no charge, and CCAI said the public is invited to attend the reception and see the exhibit at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, which is at 885 E. Musser St. The exhibit continues there through May 29.

The artist’s drawings were created with the reference point being the wild mountain sages of ancient days in China and Japan.

The local arts initiative organization also sent out information on Nevada Neighbors artist talks by Julia Schwadron on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC), and by Justin Favela on March 26 at 7 p.m., also in the BRIC at 108 E. Proctor St. Schwadron’s talk is called “You Are Here”; Favela’s is called “We Might Should Could.” No admission is charged.

Also at the BRIC in April and May are readings and a workshop involving contemporary writers being put on by CACI at no charge.

On April 8 at 4 p.m., Ismael Santillanes will conduct a writing workshop followed at 5:30 p.m. by a reading. A reading by Caleb Cage is set at 5 p.m. on May 17 from “The Gods of Diyala: Transfer of Command in Iraq.”
