June 1, 1950 - July 6, 2014

Loving husband and father LaRue Smith passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. LaRue was born and raised in Pennsylvania and traveled all over the United States and Canada before finally settling down in Carson City in 1985. He loved his career as a hydrologist for the US Geological Survey and proudly retired in 2012 after 29 years of service. He was an avid gardener, woodworker and outdoorsman. His favorite hobbies included skiing, racquetball, computer working and sharing his interests with his children, grandchildren and neighborhood kids. LaRue was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife Connie, son Kevin White, daughter Laura Ponticello, sister Deborah Miller and grandchildren Miles, Ella and Olivia. He will also be missed by many friends and an extended family. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. All are welcome at a remembrance to be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 10 at Walton’s Funeral Home, 1281 N Roop St, Carson City.
