The great trotting match at the Carson City Course will take place on the 19th and not the 20th as announced earlier. This sweepstakes race between four of our local flyers will be for “blood and treasure” and will be well worth seeing. The time is changed so as to not interfere with the Pioneers’ Picnic on the 20th.

Capt. Lapham is about to build a new pleasure boat for the Lake. It is to be a sort of sloop, 100-feet long by 30-feet wide, and will be fitted with rooms for families. In short, it will be sort of a floating hotel and tie up to the bank wherever it wants to. It will be ready for tourists in about a month.

The burning of the China house and the large building used to store farm machinery at the Robinson ranch two miles west of town appears to be by incendiary. Hundreds of willing workers conveyed by autos, teams and afoot worked to confine the blaze.

Secretary of State Malcolm McEachin announced all state offices will close at noon to observe D-Day. The state highway closed at noon and the merchants closed at 1 p.m. by proclamation by Mayor C.B. Austin. The Liberty Bell will ring and prayer will be the one common impulse of all.
