Dance version of ‘Wizard of Oz’ planned

Ayako’s Dance Studio, under the sponsorship of Pinkerton Ballet Theatre, will present “Dorothy’s Dance Adventure in the Land of Oz” at 7 p.m. Friday in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

The show is a dance version of the classic “Wizard of Oz” which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. All of the featured dancers have been dancing since they were 3 or 4 years old and are now in their teens and early 20s. Featured dancers are Samantha Berger as Dorothy; Bella Bruketta as Scarecrow; Bethany Giurlani as Tin Man; Lisarah Simonson as Cowardly Lion; Morgan Remick as Wicked Witch of the West; Kara Berggren as Glinda, Good Witch of the North; and Jayse Gillott as the wizard. Toto is played by Hazen.

General admission costs $10 per person. Admission for seniors 60 and older and children 10 and younger costs $7. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Free performances for schools in Carson City and surrounding areas are planned on Friday morning. These performances are part of Pinkerton Ballet Theatre’s outreach program to enable children to experience and enjoy the performing arts.
