St. John’s silent auction

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1170 South Taylor Street is hosting a silent auction on June 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bidding ends at 2 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. If you have anything you would like to contribute to the auction, it would be greatly appreciated.

All proceeds will go to Rebecca’s Garden of Hope scholarship fund.

A.R.C.C. meeting

The (A.R.C.C.) Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur (HAM) Radio operators or anyone interested in amateur (HAM) radio to join us.

Monthly meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month at the Churchill County Administrative Complex, 155 N. Taylor St., room 102.

MOPS meeting

The Mothers of Preschoolers group will have some play dates as regular meetings have now concluded until late August. The first play date will be May 27 at Laura Mills Park. “Fizz Boom Read,” the 2014 Churchill County Library Summer Reading Program, begins with signups in June.

Fernley Women Republicans

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) will hold their next meeting at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, on June 17 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Gerald O’Driscoll, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, will speak on the perils of a margin tax victory and how Nevada will certainly suffer economic harm to its bottom line. The public is encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. for a bite to eat and a bit of social interaction before the start of the meeting.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Blood Drive hosted by the Knights of Columbus will be held on June 21.

Community Service Thrift Shop

The Community Service Thrift Shop at 169 E. Center Street is open 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. each weekday.

We are a non-profit organization run by a group of dedicated community volunteers. We do not have room for bicycles, beds, couches or large televisions. We receive donations at the back door from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. weekdays.

We have received lots of material (priced at $1 a yard) and lots of Lace trim’ priced as marked, that is for sale.

We are celebrating Father’s Day with half-price sale on all mens clothing.

The proceeds from our sales support families with emergency help, with a written referral from Churchill County Social Services, and also for the scholarship programs for graduating CCHS students and local nursing students.

XL Hospice is providing a blood pressure clinic on the first Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m.-noon at the Senior Center, 310 Court St.

Hearts of Gold Quilters

The Hearts of Gold Quilters meets every Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way. All quilters are welcome.

We are a group of 40 busy quilters who meet weekly to make donation quilts, as well as working on our own projects.

An average of 80 quilts per year are donated to our community.

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is located inside the front lobby of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, 801 E. Williams Ave. Hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.

Churchill Democrats

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 18, at the Library Annex meeting room in the Serendipity bookstore on the corner of Maine and Fairview. They will be finalizing plans for the summer. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

High school equivalence classes

WNC Fallon will be offering free HSE classes for students interested in attaining their high school equivalence diploma.

Registration for these classes will be held the first Monday and Tuesday of each month and is on going. You must attend both days of registration.

The Churchill County High School class of 1964 is seeking the addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of class members in order to invite them to the 50th reunion in August in Fallon.
