100 Years Ago

Too Much Delay in Project Opening. It now looks like the opening of lands to settlement will be delayed, possible until next fall, at earliest, unless the Reclamation officials in Washington wake up and take a comprehensive view of actual conditions on the Truckee-Carson Project. There is plenty of water, plenty of land and in many instances the ditches are already constructed, while settlers are here waiting to take up the land.

The Winter Carnival. The visit of the editor of the Eagle to Truckee last Saturday afforded the opportunity of seeing the Winter Carnival in all its glory. One residing in the sunny climate of Lahontan Valley would naturally think that winter was a thing of the past, but not so when you reach the Little City of Truckee, nestled in the bosom of the snow-clad Sierra.

Café Reopens. Reopening of the Lincoln Café on East Center Street by Miss Marian Campbell of Reno has been the business event of the week in Fallon. Miss Campbell invites inspection of her kitchen where she has all women cooks.

White Robin Seen Here What those who have seen it declare is a white robin has been reported here this week by residents of Russell Street, who say that the bird has all the characteristics of the Robin as to size, shape and manner of hopping, but is entirely white excepting for a dark streak down its back.

Sunrise Breakfast. An Easter sunrise service and breakfast, to be participated in by the people of Yerington and Schurz Indian Missions, is being planned, it was announced this week by the Rev. Floyd O. Burnett of Schurz. An invitation is extended for all to join in the event.

Bulletin. Governor Grant Sawyer is seeking support from the governors of 13 western states to

save the silver dollar from extinction. Though the silver dollar is not a vital part of the economy

it is a part of the frontier heritage which all of us share.

Western Governors Fight to Save Silver Dollar. Twelve Western Governors have joined Governor Grant Sawyer in the fight to save the silver dollar. All are notifying President Johnson.

Contacted by the Nevada Governor Tuesday, the twelve western chief executives pledged united

action to win favorable action on bills now before Congress.

Fallon Eagle Standard — March 6, 1964.

Fallon to Receive Natural Gas Soon. H. G. Laub, President of Southwest Gas Corporation, Said work would begin immediately on a $6 million project to provide natural gas to 15 Northern Nevada communities. Laub said the company will begin construction of additional Transmission facilities within a week as well as installing distribution systems in Fallon and Fernley just as soon as authorization is obtained.
