With the construction and operation of the Dairy Farmers of America dry milk powder plant in Fallon, the Northern Nevada dairy industry and cluster could see more opportunities in the future. Along with the dry milk powder plant, a new Farm Bill has passed that could also impact this dairy cluster.
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will host a workshop at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to discuss the impact of the dry powder milk plant and the Farm Bill on the Northern Nevada dairy industry and cluster. Other topics include:
Financial analysis of Northern Nevada dairies.
Economic development potential and examples from Utah.
Current and future situation outlook from local perspective.
The workshop will be at the Churchill County Cooperative Extension office in Fallon. The cost is $15 per person and includes lunch at the Slanted Porch with special guest speaker Mark Walker, dean of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
The program is funded by the USDA’s Risk Management Agency, which promotes, supports and regulates sound risk management solutions to preserve and strengthen the economic stability of America’s agricultural producers.
