James Russell Gandy died peacefully at his home in Minden on Oct. 15, 2014. He was 67. Jim was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Richland, Wash. He and his wife Marion were married in Sparks in 1985. They built a home in Carson Valley and moved to Minden in 1997. Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran and held several degrees. He was a longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America, including service as regional executive of the Reno region. He was involved in all aspects of the club as a competitor, event organizer, board member, regional executive and editor of Road & Tach. He was a journalist for Autoweek Magazine in Reno. Jim is survived by his wife Marion of Minden; mother, Bernice Gandy of Kennewick, Wash.; sister Karen (Charles) Matthews of Issaquah, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Robert Gandy Sr., and brother Robert Gandy Jr. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at St. Gall Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, Nevada. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice, 690 Sierra Rose Drive, Reno, NV 89511; or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, or www.cancer.org. Arrangements were under the direction of FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City.
