School: Carson High

Sport: Tennis

Year: Sophomore

Q: What is your favorite sport to watch on TV and why?

A: Either tennis or soccer because there are trick shots that are used which makes them more exciting.

Q: Do you feel professional athletes should be considered role models, and why?

A: I think pro athletes should only be seen as role models if they live good lives off the court. It doesn’t matter how well they play if they make bad decisions off the playing field.

Q: What are your feelings about “dress guidelines” at the high school level?

A: I think they are needed at the high school level and I appreciate them. I don’t want to be in an environment with that much immodesty because it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Q: What is your favorite sports movie?

A: “42,” mainly because it’s maybe the only one I’ve seen but it also had really good messages.

Q: What do you like or dislike about Carson City?

A: I like how in Carson City you never have to deal with crowds or traffic. The downside of that is there are less people to get to know and there is not as much to do that doesn’t require driving long distances.

Q: What vacation spot have you enjoyed the most?

A: My favorite vacation place is Thailand. I went there to visit family and was able to spend a couple of weeks there enjoying the ocean and culture.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Medium rare steak.

Q: What is the last non-academic book you read?

A: The last books I read were the Harry Potter series. I could remember certain details of the movies and it bothered me.

Q: Is too much emphasis placed on test scores in education?

A: I don’t think tests in general truly test our intellect. In classes we’re only taught the material covered on the tests so we don’t lean much outside the basic material.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete, and why?

A: I don’t really know many professional athletes but the one most known to me is Rafael Nadal. He is a very good tennis player and I think outside of playing tennis he is a decent human being.
