William Edwards, a loving husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather died September 29, 2014 in his home. He passed peacefully with his wife Shirley, daughter Scheri, and granddaughters Ashley and Alyssa by his side. He was born in Fellows, CA to Reginald and Ruth Edwards and raised in Bakersfield, CA. In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII as well as the Korean War. After twenty-one years of active duty, he retired as Chief Air Traffic Controller. After retiring for eighteen months, he returned to work as an air traffic controller on the Pacific Missile Range at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. He then became an air traffic controller at Nassau International Airport in the Bahamas then later went to Pacific Missile Range in Kauai, HI. Bill finally became Senior Dispatcher for Pan American Airways in both Honolulu and San Francisco. In 1966, he married Shirley Smoot in Carson City and had one child. He worked for Ben’s Discount Liquor in both Reno and Carson City. He was proceeded in death by his parents and two younger brothers. He is survived by wife Shirley, daughters Scheri Bispo and Linda Gallagher, son Mike Edwards, eight grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
