The Fallon volleyball earned a weekend split against Spring Creek and Elko on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Fallon dropped Spring Creek 25-17, 18-25, 15-25, 25-6, 15-13, to pick up its lone victory.

Kristyn Arvizo led the Lady Wave with nine kills, while Evan Matheson and Haylee Paladini each had eight. Matheson also had a team-high six total blocks, while Kyla Kincaid tallied eight digs and Paige Thorn added six.

Setter Zoey Swisher had a team-high 28 assists and Taylor Amezquita added eight.

Against Elko, though, Fallon was swept 25-13, 25-19, 25-15.

Whitney Skabelund recorded a team-high seven kills, while Matheson added three and Paladini and Arvizo each had two. Megan McCormick had a trio of blocks, Kincaid added 17 digs and Swisher and Amezquita each tallied seven assists.

Fallon hosted Truckee on Tuesday, but the result was not available at press time. The Lady Wave visit South Tahoe on Thursday and host Lowry and Dayton on Tuesday and Oct. 24, respectively.


Overlie 6th, Thomson 10th at Lowry

Fallon’s runners earned a pair of fifth-place finishes last week at the Lowry Invitational.

Freshman Chloe Overlie led the Lady Wave as she placed sixth overall with a time of 21:38. Tristen Thomson and Ethan Smith paced the boys as the duo finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

Following the tandem were Mo Coverston in 34th (20:23), Terry White in 36th (20:26), Devyn Frederick in 42nd (20:59) and Michael Anderson in 52nd (22:00).

For the Lady Wave, Shelby Hickox came in 28th (25:17) followed by Jordyn Rogers in 30th (25:26), Adia Sommer in 31st (25:30), Amanda Pursley in 35th (25:40), Shelby Smith in 36th (26:17) and Emily Scott in 42nd (27:15).

At the Reed Invitational on Oct. 3, the boys placed 11th (318 points) and the Lady Wave took 10th with 230 points.

Smith took 26th with a mark of 18:56. White was 78th (21:06), Coverston was 80th (21:12), Frederick took 88th (21:52) and Anderson was 90th (22:06) out of 114 runners.

Overlie had another solid performance as the freshman took 17th (22:37). She was followed by Rogers in 60th (26:12), Sommer in 61st (26:21), Hickox in 62nd (26:24), Pursley in 63rd (26:37) and Smith in 69th (27:58).


Golfers fourth at Fernley

The Fallon girls golf team was fourth at the Fernley Invitational last week with a score of 429.

It was the best overall score of the season for the Lady Wave, who close the regular season today at the Fallon Golf Course.

At Fernley, Tabetha Park carded a season-low 93 followed by Sarah Evans (101), Viviane Ugalde (111) and Hannah Evans (124).

Park and Sarah Evans are also in line to qualify for Monday and Tuesday’s state tournament.

Evans leads the team with a 105.3 average, while Park is second at 106.2. Ugalde is third (113.7) and Hannah Evans is fourth (116.5).
