Inmate, 45, dies in Carson City psychiatric unit

Authorities say a 45-year-old prison inmate who was in a Carson City hospital psychiatric unit has died of a medical condition.

Nevada Department of Corrections officials say Frank Ortiz died Wednesday in the Regional Medical Facility at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

Ortiz had been serving a sentence of 10 years to life on a sexual assault conviction out of Clark County. He had been in the prison system since 1997.

Carson City coroner’s officials responded, and an autopsy was scheduled.
