Local events to mark state’s birthday

Nevada’s Birthday Celebration at Local Museum

The Mayor’s NV 150 Commission is celebrating Nevada’s 150th birthday on Oct. 31 with a series of free public events.

From 4-6 p.m, the Churchill County Museum will host the burial of a community time capsule and the Commission will grant awards to the winners of the Then and Now science fair. Authors Michon Mackedon and Valerie Serpa will be present to sign their newly released book “Fallon.” Author Linda Rasmussen will be present to sign her new book, “The State That Made a Nation Great.”

Birthday cake will be served at 5 p.m. Wearing costumes (Halloween or vintage) is encouraged.


Nevada’s Birthday Celebration at Venturacci Gym

Later in the day beginning at 7 p.m, the Mayor’s NV 150 Commission will hold a free public event at the Venturacci Gym. The event will feature a square dance demonstration by the Oasis Squares, dancing for all to music provided by the Carson River Band, free hot dogs and birthday cake, and a cash bar manned by the local volunteer fire department. Families are encouraged to stop by the gym following trick or treating for free hot dogs, cake and fun. Costumes are welcome.
