Not all the stars are in the sky

Showtime is upon us. On Saturday night, the CAPS Murder Mystery Dinner “Reno:1930” will be performed, and you will have a chance to meet the stars up close and personal. I couldn’t wait to meet Goonie, so I went out to CAPS to shake paws and get acquainted. I can tell you that Goonie is a star with personality plus. He will be making his debut in the world of theater tomorrow night. I can hardly wait to see what character he portrays. He would also like to be a star to that special home where he can play a leading role. Don’t miss his performance: it’s bound to be epic.

I’m always astonished by the generosity of our local actors that give freely of their time and talent to bring the best entertainment to our community. Our star-studded cast includes Glen Perazzo, Jack Lazenby, Zip Upham, Tom Graham, Steve Fracker, Alison Jamison, Mike Alby and Gerri Doyle. Diane Peters is a veteran director who brings fresh innovative ideas to murder and mayhem. I am told this is a fun murder. Fun and murder seem like water and oil ... they don’t mix, do they? I hope you will be there to see how this stirs up.

Susie’s BBQ is going to be stirring up a great all-you-can-eat feast that includes chicken, tri-tip, baked beans, and all of the trimmings. “Over the Moon” cupcakes will be the star of dessert. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. All of this will be included in the price of admission $30. There will also be a no-host bar for stronger libations. The fun begins 5 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center. Ticket can be purchased from the CAPS shelter, Jeff’s Copy Express, Mutts, Flower Tree Nursery, 3- Dimension Shipping and at the event.

After the dinner/show, there will be a live auction with all of the proceeds going to support Churchill Animal Protection Society, our no-kill animal shelter. Donation jars will be available for contributions if you cannot stay for the auction. Money collected goes directly to dog and cat care.

Speaking of stars ... I would like to commend all of the folks who volunteer at the CAPS shelter.

I am always impressed by the kindness everyone displays who works with the animals. I know that my dog, Watson, still remembers and loves to see his people friends from CAPS. Who needs movie stars when we have the real deal right here in Fallon?

On to a different subject, I had a request from readers to review dog park etiquette.

The most important one is this: No aggressive dogs. We have such a positive group of people and dogs it makes sense. Another important rule: Clean up after your dog. It is greatly appreciated by everyone at the park, and it keeps a healthy environment for dogs to play. Let’s work together to keep our all-star dog park wonderful.

CAPS News and Events:

Tomorrow, as noted above, CAPS will present a Murder Mystery Dinner “Reno:1930” at the Fallon Convention Center. The evening begins at 5 p.m. The cost is $30, which includes a scrumptious buffet and world-class entertainment. Details are on CAPS website (www.capsnv.org) and Facebook page (Churchill Animal Protection Society). Be sure to “Like” CAPS on Facebook because we are really likable.

On Nov.15 CAPS will be at Walmart. Don’t miss seeing “Ki, King of the Pucker” and become part of his fan club. Ki is always ready to greet old friends and made new friends. Do you have the pucker power to beat the “two-minute kiss”? Even if your pucker lacks pout, Ki will delight you with his sweetness.

As a final note. CAPS is always in need of dog and cat food. You can drop it off at CAPS or send an email to me. Do you have questions, comments or a great story? Please contact me at jkwmil@outlook.com.
