Wave fights for postseason

The Fallon boys soccer team rolled past Dayton, 5-2, on Tuesday to step closer in keeping its Northern Division I-A playoff hopes alive.

The Wave dominated early with a three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Fallon added two more in the second half, while Dayton also scored twice.

“It was nice to get playing time for everyone and make sure seniors were healthy for the senior night tomorrow (Thursday),” Fallon coach Nate Waite said.

Fidel Enriquez opened the match with a goal in the first 13 seconds, while Tristan Parrott added two scores and Corbin Waite, Josh Moulton and Trevor Davis each had one.

Dayton, though, was playing with a limited roster and it showed.

“I really admired Dayton,” Nate Waite said. “Playing with no subs and no wins all season, they worked hard whole match. (They) just lacked experience and speed in a lot of places. They gave it their all.”

With the win, Fallon (8-6-1) moves into a tie with Elko (8-5-1) for fourth place, while South Tahoe (8-4-2) is in third after a 1-1 tie against Sparks on Tuesday.

Elko holds the tiebreaker over Fallon, which leaves the Wave needing help from Truckee and South Tahoe.

Elko ends the season with homes matches against first-place Truckee (today) and South Tahoe (Saturday). South Tahoe, meanwhile, visits Spring Creek today.

Fallon ended its regular season with a home match Thursday against Fernley (2-12), but results were not available at press time.

The Wave’s playoff hopes ride on several scenarios. With a win against the Vaqueros, Fallon would qualify if South Tahoe and Elko both tie its final two matches.

Fallon can also clinch if each Elko and South Tahoe ends with a loss and a tie. In addition, if either South Tahoe or Elko loses both games and Fallon beats Fernley, the Wave is in.

Of course, Fallon will be eliminated with one win each by Elko and South Tahoe in the final two games.

Spring Creek, meanwhile, still has an outside chance of reaching the playoffs, but must beat South Tahoe and Truckee on Saturday. In addition, Spring Creek needs help with a tie or loss by Fallon and two loses by Elko.

Lady Wave earn shutout

The Fallon girls soccer team earned a 3-0 win at Dayton on Tuesday.

Fallon was led by goals from Macy Myers, Becca Mills and Megan Warner. Myers also added an assist.

The Lady Wave improves to 5-8-2 in the Northern Division I-A and 8-12-2 overall, although Fallon has been eliminated from playoff contention.

Fallon ended its season Thursday at Fernley. Results were not available at press time.
