An amateur collegiate boxing exhibition will be held on Sept. 13 at the Carson Valley Inn.

Produced by members of the University of Nevada boxing alumni and coaches, the event will showcase boxers from the Air Force Academy, University of Nevada, University of Washington and the University of California-Berkeley. The card will include at least ten 3-round bouts and will start at 4 p.m. at TJ’s Corral.

Tickets are $10 and are available online at www.carsonvalleyinn.com or at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk.

“This event at the CVI presents a great opportunity to see some National Collegiate Boxing Association Champions in action,” Dan Holmes, a Nevada Alumnus, past National Champion and one of the current Nevada coaches,

Among the standouts expected to compete is Nevada’s Garrett Felling, who won the National Collegiate Boxing Association title last spring at 185 pounds, and Jacob Berggren of Air Force, who captured the NCBA 139-pound championship title when he outpointed Nevada’s J.J. Mariano.

“I’m sure we’ll also see some boxers who will go on to the NBAC finals in 2015 and, most likely, some who will win National Championships,” Holmes added.

Holmes explained that the University of Nevada has a very strong boxing alumni group he describes as a “caring brotherhood of now successful businessmen who continue to keep the sport alive and well.”

“The kids who box at Nevada are not on scholarship, they do it for the love of the sport. These kids become schooled in life and they almost all graduate and go on to become successful in many fields,” Holmes added.
