The Nevada Association of Counties (NACO) will host a celebration of Nevada’s 150th birthday with a performance by local western musicians Richard Elloyen and Steve Wade today. The event will also feature the UNR Cadet Band and a chance to see inside one of Carson City’s historic pre-statehood homes.

The event begins at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the historic Ormsby Rosser house at 3rd and Minnesota Streets in Carson City. The open house will follow at 7 p.m.

“The Ormsby Rosser house was built in 1862, and actually predates statehood. Following the live music and dedications on the lawn, we will give the community an opportunity to see inside the house,” said NACO Executive Director Jeff Fontaine.

The event is free to the public and refreshments will be provided following the performances. Pershing County Commissioner and current Association of Counties President Pat Irwin declared of the event, “we think this event is a great way to celebrate our State’s birthday — as county commissioners we care very much about our State’s history and our duty to serve Nevada’s citizens — so why not throw a little party to celebrate Nevada and Nevadans!”

The event will also include a tree planting and dedication in honor of the Sesquicentennial. For more information, visit www.nvnaco.org.
