Gov. Brian Sandoval and Sen. Harry Reid on Friday announced separate federal grants to projects in both Northern and Southern Nevada.

Sandoval said the state will receive $1.9 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education. The money will support local programs designed to keep students safe and improve learning environments. The state department of Education and the Washoe County School District will receive the cash.

At the same time, Reid, D-Nev., announced a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the Boulder City Hospital.

The money will purchase equipment and software to move the hospital from a manual health records system to an electronic system.
