Carson City elementary school released from lockdown

Mark Twain Elementary School is back to its normal schedule after what officials are calling a precautionary lockdown this morning.

“Everyone is safe. There are no injuries,” said Richard Stokes, superintendent of the Carson City School District. “It was merely a precautionary effort.”

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, deputies were patrolling the area around 10 a.m. when two people ran from them for unknown reasons.

“I was in close contact with superintendent, and we put the school on a lockdown while it was determined who was running from us and why,” Furlong said. “We quickly determined there was no threat to the school.”

The lockdown lasted from about 10 to 10:40 a.m., Stokes said.

All classes are back in session and school will release at its regular time.

“All systems are go,” Stokes said.
