FCTA approves 4 grants for community events

The Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority met recently and approved and/or tabled the following grants:

Approved the Churchill Arts Council grant for $10,000 to the event that draws in over 18,000 people a year. The arts council attracts repeat out-of-town audiences for performances at venues in Churchill County. For 2015-2016, the art council will present nine performing, six visual, six films and three literary events. Monthly open houses draw 400-500 people and draw in out-of-towners. The art council is promoting events through direct mail, print advertising, website and emails.

Approved the Fallon Trap Club grant for $5,000. The club holds shooting events throughout the year to promote, enhance and encourage participation in the sport of trap shooting. The club helps local organizations with fundraising events and sponsors local youth trap shooting club, Lahontan Valley Claybreakers.

Approved the Lahontan Valley Bird Dog Club grant for $2,500. The club holds two competitive events at its facility a year. The club continues to grow in the number of contestants that are brought to the Churchill County area. Almost 80 contestants participate in the event.

Approved the Ranch Hand Rodeo grant for $3,500. The rodeo will take place July 31 though Aug. 2. The purpose of the organization is to promote working ranch events for men and women, teams, and horsemanship.
