Le Vent du Nord, an evening of music from Quebec

A cavalcade of good time music will roll into Fallon when the Quebec-based ensemble performs at the Art Center on April 25.

The group has gained wide recognition for their abilities to take traditional Quebecois folk music—which is a vibrant strain of Celtic music—in fresh and vital new directions. In the last decade they’ve performed more than 1,400 concerts at a variety of venues around the world.

They keep pushing the traditional music ever-forward. The ground-breaking group blazes a path that connects their Quebecois roots to a wider world on musical influences.

Considered a driving force in progressive folk, they capture the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party infusing old Celtic Quebec with a breath of fresh, cosmopolitan air.

The talented quartet is made up of Nicolas Boulerice, the charismatic hurdy-gurdy and piano accordion player; Simon Beaudry on guitar and bouzouki; Oliver Demers, violin and guitar; and Rejean Brunet on accordion, bass guitar and jaw harp.

From coffee houses and cafés to symphony halls the group has developed a devoted following for their high-energy live shows. They are on a national tour in support of their latest album “Tetu,” which came out last month.

They’ve won two Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year and were named artists of the year by Folk Alliance International.

The group will hold a free and open to the public conversation on their music and instruments in the Art Center’s bad at 5 p.m. on the day of the performance.
