Circus Tent Blown Down. Barnes’ circus tent was blown down Wednesday during the performance and the great crowd of spectators escaped with only slight injuries to a few. By quick work on the part of the employees every horse and uncaged animal was hurried outside before the tent came down. Had the catastrophe been a few minutes later, the big wild animal event would have been on. The tent was torn to shreds.

Churchill County Eagle — May 1, 1915.

Winds Blew 34 Miles on Wednesday. The heavy gale that came up Wednesday afternoon so suddenly and blew down the circus tent registered a velocity of 34 miles per hour at the U. S. Experiment Farm. It probably blew much harder than that for a short period, but there was no one out to take the record. This is quite unusual wind for this valley.

Food Stamps for Fallon Use are Approved. The government food stamp plan under terms of which those on relief will receive double benefits in purchasing surplus commodities is to be made available in Nevada first in Churchill, Washoe, Lander, Eureka and White Pine counties according to telegrams sent here from Senator Key Pittman.

Personal Items from Local Districts. •Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Barkley have moved into the old Hiatt place which has recently been vacated by the Elmer Hedlund family, who has taken the Pesi place. •Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Landis and family moved back to the valley last week. •Miss Francis Ahlers and Earl Devore were supper guests and spent Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Curtis. •Miss Eleanor Armas was the queen of the Pentecost celebration this year. •Paul Osgood has been transferred from the Carson City Standard Oil office to Fallon. •Mr. and Mrs. Ray Alcorn are temporarily located at their home in the Sheckler district. Mr. Alcorn’s duties will take him away from home considerably and Mrs. Alcorn expects to visit her sister in Idaho. •Mrs. Eugene Freeman departed Thursday morning for Sacramento to enroll in a secretarial course at the Western School of Business. She also plans on visiting friends in San Jose. •The school picnic will be held at Stillwater on Thursday.

4-H Animals Bring Top Prices at Auction. More than 325 animals were sold in the Sunday auction. Forty-five exhibitors won awards for their skill in the ring. Maureen Matzen was chosen best girl showman in the beef showmanship class.

Harmony Social Club Celebrates Fifty Years of Community Service. The Harmony Social Club decided to treat themselves to dinner on their April meeting date, so they gathered at the Fred Kirn farm, then drove to Salt Wells to enjoy a delicious luncheon and social hour. The club has been organized 50 years.
