Grant for low income students to take AP tests

Nevada has been awarded a $296,978 grant to help low income students afford Advanced Placement tests.

The tests determine whether a student can take advanced placement classes typically aimed at students who are college bound.

Nevada’s grant is a share of the $28.4 million in awards to 38 states and the Virgin Islands.

“These grants are a smart investment in equity and a way to eliminate barriers for low income students, level the playing field and allow more students to access the college level, critical thinking and reasoning skills taught in AP courses,” said John King of the federal Department of Education.
