The Nevada football team wrapped up its preseason training camp on Saturday by naming its team captains after an energetic scrimmage at Mackay Stadium.

The scrimmage, which was open to university faculty and staff, featured a variety of in-game scenarios as the Wolf Pack is now just eight days away from its season-opener at Mackay Stadium. Newly named starting quarterback Tyler Stewart completed 5-of-7 passes for 45 yards, while sophomore QB Dantè Mayes provided the scrimmage’s longest play with a 40-yard TD run on 4th-and-1.

“I’ve seen the team come together, which is exciting,” said third-year head coach Brian Polian, summarizing progress from fall camp. “We’ve had some good physical play and we’re getting better fundamentally. Training camp is over now — it’s time to set a depth chart and get ready to play.”

Following the team’s 19th and final practice of fall camp, Polian introduced four new captains to the team. Senior RB Don Jackson and sophomore LT Austin Corbett will represent the offense. On the defensive side, the captains will be senior DE Lenny Jones and senior LB Jordan Dobrich.

Dobrich becomes the first three-time captain in recent Wolf Pack history. Corbett — a local product from Sparks — is just the second sophomore in recent history to earn a captain’s nod as Dobrich got the honor two years ago. Jackson was named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list after returning from his 957-yard campaign last year. Jones has played in 38 games with 104 tackles and 20.0 TFL in his Wolf Pack career.

“I am very excited about the group of four players that our team has voted into the leadership position of captains,” said Polian. “I think Don, Austin, Jordan, and Lenny will do a great job of setting the tone for the 2015 Wolf Pack both on the field and in the locker room. Being a team captain is an important responsibility and I have full confidence in these guys.”

Linebacker Gabe Sewell and wide receiver Victory Gonzalez were also voted on to the team’s leadership committee to represent the freshmen class.

“Gabe Sewell and Victor Gonzalez are respected by their peers and I have no doubt they will represent their classmates well,” Polian said.

The Wolf Pack opens the 2015 season on Sept. 3 against UC Davis with kickoff at 7 p.m. — the only non-day game on the home schedule this season. Season tickets are on sale with prices starting at just $99 for all six games.

All 2015 season ticketholders receive priority for seating in 2016 at the renovated Mackay Stadium. Three-game mini-plans are also available now, and single-game tickets are also available.
