A Fallon man was killed Friday when he rolled his 1984 Peterbilt tractor-trailer on its side on Lone Tree Road near Jewell Place, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported Monday morning.

According to the NHP, the name of the deceased driver is John Russell Edwards, 73, who died at the scene.

The NHP said Edwards was traveling too fast and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The tractor-trailer entered the right shoulder of the roadway, over turned, struck a power pole, utility box and damaged a nearby culvert. The NHP also said Churchill County Sheriff’s deputies, the Fallon/Churchill Fire Department and paramedics from Banner Churchill Community Hospital were the initial first responders.

The NHP report stated Edwards was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. Residents in the area were without power and telephone service for an unknown period of time because of the damaged power pole and utility box.

Lone Tree Road is a two-lane, unmarked roadway with a 35-mile-per-hour speed limit with no roadway lighting. The collision is still under investigation.

Trooper Trent Barnes of the Nevada Highway Patrol Fallon Office is investigating this collision. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are encouraged to contact him at 775-423-7946 or tbarnes@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-150101907.
