It’s not often high school band students have the opportunity to play with a professional orchestra the size and quality of the United States Air Force Concert Band of Washington, D.C.
Nine CHS band students are now rehearsing John Phillip Sousa’s National Game March to play along with the full band appearing at the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
The nine CHS music students chosen to accompany the full band are: Payton Henderson, clarinet; Madeline Corine, clarinet; Dillon Dodge, alto sax; Emely Lopez, percussion; Spencer Bean, bari sax; Corrinne Defilippi, piccolo; Emma Baglin, flute; Caela Diaz, percussion; Bailey Griffin, clarinet; Ethan Snyder, tuba; Cassidy Robinson, trumpet; and Mike Irvin, trombone.
“It’s not every day a group of this talent plays in our city and it is quite an honor to have the USAF Band here,” Carson High’s Director of Bands & Orchestra William Zablelsky said. “I am also excited for our very talented students who will get a chance of a lifetime to play side-by-side with these professional musicians.”
The USAF Concert Band features 53 active duty Airmen and 23 Singing Sergeants.
The concert is being sponsored by the City of Carson City and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. Tickets may be picked up on a first-come, first-serve basis on Monday at the Chamber office at 1900 S. Carson St., — near the NV Railroad Museum. Since seating is limited at the theater, it’s best to call 882-1565 to make certain tickets still are available. Only four tickets will be granted per couple until they are gone. Tickets are free.
