LAS VEGAS — The Federal Aviation Administration is planning a meeting in Nevada by the end of the year about expanding drone aircraft testing.
FAA chief Michael Huerta made the promise Monday during a speech to an aviation symposium hosted by Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus in Las Vegas.
Officials refer to drones as unmanned aerial systems.
A date and location for the meeting hasn’t been made public.
Huerta says it’ll focus on expanding operations at sites in the six states where testing takes place.
The first FAA-authorized commercial drone operation began in Alaska about a year ago.
New York, North Dakota, Texas and Virginia also have drone testing.
Nevada has test facilities in Boulder City and at airports in Mercury, Fallon and Stead.
The FAA is still developing drone operating regulations.
