Nevada Appeal at 150: March 4, 1913: President Woodrow Wilson takes oath of office

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.

Woodrow Wilson of New Jersey was today inaugurated as the twenty-eighth President of the United States, when he took the oath of office at Washington. Thomas R. Marshall was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States and the destiny of the Union is now in the hands of the two elected to guide the ship of state.

Great preparations have been made for the inaugural ceremonies and Washington is crowded by sightseers and those interested in this American practice. Flags have decorated every public building in the United States today and the people welcome a new man to the seat of government.

Following the oath of office President Wilson delivered his address after which he reviewed the immense parade of military, naval and civic bodies. The affair took place this afternoon and the new President is now installed in the White House.
