Carson City Muscle Powered celebrating May as Bike Month

Muscle Powered is celebrating May as Bike Month, and Bike Habitat’s Tour of Carson City on Sunday is kicking off the month-long biking festivities.

The Tour of Carson City, a 27-30 mile moderately paced ride around Carson City, starts at 9 a.m. at Bike Habitat, 911 Topsy Lane, Suite 238.

The Carson City Celebrity Ride, in which the mayor, city supervisors and other community leaders will participate in a short bike ride, will be at 11 a.m. May 4 at Telegraph Square.

A mountain bike night ride in Ash Canyon will be at 6:30 p.m. May 6 at the Foothill Road Trailhead off Winnie Lane.

A bicycle movie night is planned at 6 p.m. May 9 in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.

Bike to Work Week Corporate Challenge is Monday through Friday, May 11-15. Public agencies and private businesses can register with Muscle Powered and compete for prizes for most miles, average miles per participant and number of trips. Sign up at MusclePowered.org.

An easy, four-mile family ride will be at 6 p.m. May 13 at the Brewery Arts Center.

Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15, when coffee will be offered to bicycle commuters at participating coffee shops. A membership party and fundraiser will be at 5:30 p.m. on the same day at Firkin & Fox, 310 S. Carson St., Suite 100. The event includes a helmet decorating booth, raffles and more.
