The Fallon softball team closed out the regular season with a sweep over host South Tahoe last weekend.

The Lady Wave drilled the Vikings 10-2 on Friday and slipped past South Tahoe with a 4-2 win and 7-1 victory on Saturday.

With the sweep, the Lady Wave earned the No. 2 seed and face No. 3 Lowry at noon Friday at Dayton in the first round of the Northern Division I-A playoffs. League champ Fernley and fourth-seeded Elko kickoff the day at 10 a.m.

In Friday’s game, Fallon raced out to a 5-2 lead after the third inning and added four runs in the final two frame to blow past the Vikings.

Ali Tedford doubled and scored twice in addition to driving in three runs to pace Fallon. Paige Thorn, Kalyn Huckaby also doubled, while Kayla Buckmaster tripled to lead the offense.

In the circle, Buckmaster fanned 11 hitters in her complete game six hitter. She allowed two earned runs to earn the win.

In Saturday’s opener, Fallon scored once in the first, second, third and fifth innings to hold on for the win.

Freshman Faith Cornmesser, in her second stint with the varsity club, was fantastic as she fanned 12 batters and allowed one earned run on eight hits in seven innings.

Thorn and Megan McCormick each doubled and McCormick, while Tedford added a pair of hits. The Lady Wave stole nine bases.

In the finale, Fallon put three runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to snuff out South Tahoe.

Thorn oubled and drove in two, while McCormick added a double, triple and an RBI in the win. Huckaby went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and Hannah Frank chipped in with a RBI.

Buckmaster was solid in the circle as she allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out six in seven innings.


Southern I-A tournament

The Southern I-A tournament kicked off Tuesday with four games.

Boulder City, No. 1 seed from the Sunrise League, hosted, No. 4 seed Cheyenne from the Sunset Legaue. No. 2 SS Faith Lutheran hosted No. 3 SR Moapa Valley.

No. 1 SS Sierra Vista took on No. 4 SR Chaparral and No. 2 SR Sunrise Mountain battled No. 3 SS Spring Valley.

The regional title game is May 9 and the two winners advance to the state tournament.
