Lorene (Lory) Haffner Smithers, died peacefully at her home in Fallon, Nevada on May 2nd, 2015 surrounded by family. She was born September 20th, 1941 in Spokane, Washington to Marine Col. Loren E. Haffner and his wife Ramona (Mona) Haffner. She was married to Tom Smithers for 43 years. Lory is survived by her children, Debi Gunn Henning (Kurt), Dona Gunn Burke (Dennis), Terry Gunn Clark (John), Brinda Smithers Funk, Tracy Smithers, and numerous grandchildren and great grand children. She was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter Stacey Smithers and son Jerry Smithers. Lory moved from California in the early 70’s and met Tom Smithers in Fallon. They enjoyed many adventures whether it was camping, jeeping, checking out ghost towns and traveling with friends. Lory attended nursing school and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved helping people and worked in the local hospital and convalescent center. She was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed riding her horses. This was her heaven on this earth, taking her daily ride in the Nevada desert. She loved all animals and had many types over the years. She was a gardener and spent much of her time working in her beautiful yard along the Carson river.

The family is having a Celebration of Life for Lory at the Eagles Hall in Fallon, Nevada on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 2:00 pm. They would love to share this time with friends and family and share the many wonderful memories we have of her. Meat and dessert will be provided. Please bring a favorite side dish to share among friends.
