The National Weather Service predicts Carson City will see multiple storms over the next few days.
Temperatures will be in the mid 50s Thursday through Friday evening with increased chances of rain and thunderstorms Thursday night and rain into Friday. Citizens are likely to see bands of rainstorms through those two days, so it’s difficult to predict how much rain to expect said Mark Deutschendorf at the National Weather Service, though he predicts about a tenth to a quarter of an inch or higher of rain.
Saturday will have a small chance of rain, but the temperature will be nicer in the mid 60s in the afternoon. There will be isolated showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday and chances of rain will increase due to a low pressure system coming in on Sunday.
Deutschendorf doesn’t believe Carson will see any snow, as snow levels are predicted to stay at 6,000 to 8,000 feet.
A winter storm warning is expected to take effect Thursday morning in the Sierra, bringing snowy conditions to the passes Thursday and Friday.
The storm warning goes into effect 11 a.m. Thursday above 5,500 feet and is expected to last through 5 a.m. Friday.
The California Department of Transportation announced it’s closing Sonora Pass, and the weather service expects Ebbetts Pass to close, as well.
In Carson Valley, rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected.
