Ceremonies, parades and other events are planned in the upcoming days to honor the men and women who served in the nation’s military.

Virginia City’s annual Celebration of Heroes Parade is taking place at noon Saturday along C Street to honor the memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The parade’s grand marshals will be Brenda and Greg Bolander, Virginia City residents who established a program to hang military banners along C Street to honor both fallen and active duty military members and veterans from Virginia City. The program is in remembrance of their son, Bryan Bolander, killed in action in 2008 during his fourth tour of duty in Iraq. His was the first banner to be hung.

Parade entries include veterans groups, classic car clubs, equestrian groups, a mariachi band and marching units. Parade entries will be accepted until Friday. Download the parade form online at www.visitvirginiacitynv.com, or call 775-847-7501.
