Carson City man arrested on suspicion of embezzlement from hospital

James Reyes, 39 of Carson City, was arrested on suspicion of felony embezzlement Wednesday afternoon after deputies responded to reports of the Carson-Tahoe Medical Center of suspicious invoices being purchased with hospital funds.

It was discovered Reyes, a food and nutrition manager at the hospital, allegedly created a fake business called Capital Queens Bakery and had funneled $15,692 from the hospital to the fake business. Bail was set at $20,000.

Early Wednesday morning the hospital’s accounting staff received a suspicious invoice since the hospital didn’t have a contract with Capital Queens Bakery.

A deputy contact Reyes Wednesday afternoon. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office reported after some initial denial of misconduct, Reyes admitted to opening a bogus business to send invoices.

The Sheriff’s Office reported Reyes admitted there was never any merchandise provided to the hospital for the invoices. The Sheriff’s Office also reported Reyes said he was willing to pay restitution.

Reyes’ employment was terminated from the hospital.
