VIRGINIA CITY -- Corrado De Gasperis has been appointed executive chairman of the board at Comstock Mining, Inc., according to an announcement Monday.

He will continue his existing responsibilities as president and chief executive officer. He assumes the chairmanship role of John Winfield, who’s resigning both as chairman and as a member of Comstock Mining’s board.

“I join the entire board in thanking John for the past five years,” said De Gasperis. “These board changes reflect the strong confidence and direct support of our largest investor in both our board and management teams for growing and maximizing value for all of our shareholders.”

Winfield, in exiting his chairmanship, cited “tremendous achievements” and his pride in what the company has done to provide “a clear path” toward enhancing the company’s intrinsic value.

The firm in a news release also said Robert C. Kopple has been elected by the board as lead independent director and vice chairman effective immediately.
