It’s Oct. 21, 2015, but Marty McFly still has to take roads

“Roads? Where we are going we don’t need roads.”

This is the famous quote said by Dr. Emmett Brown from Back to the Future. In 1985, Hollywood graced the world with the Back to the Future movie series. In 1989, the second installment: Back to the Future: Part II was release. The film set in the 1980s, followed Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and his friend Emmett “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as they travel to Oct. 21, 2015, to prevent a future event from happening.

Today has been declared “Back to the Future” Day by pop culture lover.

In the movie, writers from the 1980s had an interesting idea of what 2015 would look like: hoverboards, 3D movies, and most importantly flying cars.

While some ideas eventually came into fruition, not all did since we are all still driving with four (or two wheels) on the ground.

So, to honor Back to the Future day — the day McFly, Doc and the DeLorean came to the future — the Nevada Appeal took to the streets to ask the question: Do you think we will ever have flying cars?

“I think we will get flying cars, however I think we will still have roads to get around on,” said Katherine Jones, 16, of Carson City. “It will probably happen in my generation, maybe in the next 50 years.”

“No I don’t think we will have flying cars, but I think there will be a great future for electric cars,” said Bill Byrne, 81, of Carson City.

“Eventually yes, but I think they will be floating ones,” said Kai Nadalin, 9, of Carson City. “It will be a long time from now.”

“We probably will have flying cars because they have cars that let you know if someone is next to your car and ones that will parallel park for you already,” said Beverly Reykers of Carson City. “So who knows, maybe we will have it if they are already planning on making cars that can drive for you.”

“I doubt it because people can’t drive a car right now, I don’t want to fly with them too,” said Theresa O’Conner of Carson City. “People should learn to drive first before we put everyone in the sky!”
