Retired federal district judge Phil Pro has been appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said Pro, who served 35 years on the federal bench in Las Vegas will fill the remaining three-plus years of Pat Mulroy’s term. She resigned recently citing personal reasons.

“Judge Pro is a well-respected member of our community with a legal career that has spanned decades of growth in Nevada,” Sandoval said. “I believe his knowledge and judicial temperament will be an asset to the commission.”

Pro was named a federal magistrate in 1980, then appointed a district judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1987.

He will assume the gaming commission post Dec. 1.
