Carson City Search and Rescue save family from Eldorado Canyon

The Carson City Search and Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office rescued nearly a dozen people Monday morning after their vehicle got stuck in Eldorado Canyon.

Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said the family of 10 took three Jeeps up into the canyon for a day trip when their vehicle got stuck in the slick mud. The Sheriff’s Office was notified around midnight.

The family was there overnight before Search and Rescue could locate and safely reach them. CareFlight also assisted in the search and transported one male with head injuries from sliding in the mud.

The rest of the family was uninjured, just cold and hungry, Albertsen said. They had attempted to build a fire to keep warm.

The vehicles had four children inside, ages 4-7 and the adults were in their 20s and 30s.

Because of the changing weather conditions, anyone wishing to go off-roading needs to remember to bring essential gear — food, water, a cell phone, extra batteries and blankets — and make sure to tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back, Albertsen said.
