Portuguese Festa

The Fallon Portuguese Society is having its annual Portuguese Festa, May 14-15.

The dance will be May 14 at 8 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. Adults are $5. Crowning of the queens and princesses will be at 9 p.m. The procession to St. Patrick’s Church will be on May 15 starting at 10:45 a.m. Following Mass. the Festa will continue with sopas and an auction. Iris show

The Lahontan Garden Club is sponsoring their annual iris show scheduled for May 16-20at the Churchill County library during regular library business hours.

This is a free, non-juried event, open to all who want to display their irises.


CCSD human sexuality/AIDS education

Churchill County School District will conduct a 5th grade human sexuality/aids education class from May 9-17.

Parent viewing of materials is scheduled for May 3between 3-5p.m. at the District Offices, 690 S. Maine St. Permission slips are being sent home with children.

Vendors, crafters needed for July craft fair

Vendors and crafters are needed as Fallon Lights of Christmas presents the Christmas in July Craft Fair on July 29-30 at the Wolf Center.

Volunteers needed for festival

Volunteers are needed for the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair to take and display entries and judge crafts and hobbies, sewing, fine arts, foods, and vegetables.

‘The Sound of Music’ tickets

Churchill County High School presents “The Sound of Music,” under the direction of Tom Fleming in May.

The cast of about 45 talented CCHS students and community members are preparing another evening of entertainment full of song, dance and drama.

The six performances of this Broadway musical are scheduled for May 5-7 and May 12-14 beginning at 7 p.m. All performances will be held in the Churchill County High School Theater.

Reserved seating tickets are on sale now, available on line at www.cchsperformingarts.weebly.com and www.showtix4u.com, or follow the links on the CCSD and CCHS website home pages. Tickets for opening night (May 5) are $10. Thereafter, tickets are $12, $15 and $20. Available seats will go on sale at 6 p.m. the night of each performance in the CCHS Theater Lobby.


Bark in the Park

Bark in the Park annual Strut Your Mutt 5K walk/run will be held on May 7 at the Churchill County fairgrounds. Registration is 7:30-8:45 a.m.

The run begins at 9 a.m. Entrance fee is $15 for individuals, $50 for a group of four. All dogs must be on a leash. Many free activities for the family are at the fairgrounds afterward.


Amateur radio

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur Radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio to join us

The A.R.C.C. is a general interest Amateur (HAM) Radio Club serving Fallon, Fernley and surrounding areas. We have our monthly business social breakfast meeting each month. A NET Every Sunday at 6 p.m.(1800) local time on repeater 146.97 with PL of 103.5 Hz.

Relay for Life bingo

Relay for Life will be holding a Bingo Night on April 30 at the American Legion. Doors will open at 5p.m. and the games will start at 5:30 p.m.

The American Legion is located at 90 N. Ada St.

The cost for the initial set of cards is $20. his package will contain 3 cards for each of the six games. Additional sets of cards can be purchased for $5.


Volunteers needed for food distribution

Volunteers needed in Fallon to help distribute food during the day, one Wednesday every two months. Must be able to stand at least five hours. Contact Anne between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays at 775-423-2670.


Outdoor art session

Join a volunteer folk artist at Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge for a free community outdoor art session on and May 7, 14, from 10 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at the Foxtail Lake pavilion, 3 miles on the Foxtail Auto Tour route.

Bring your own art supplies, or the refuge will have limited water colors and colored pencils. Bring water, a snack and be prepared for spring weather conditions.

Learn more about your National Wildlife Refuge and all it has to offer while capturing the beauty and solitude of the Lahontan Valley marsh and mountains.

Artists Critique Workshop

The Artists’ Critique Workshop welcomes artists of all levels and media to join a monthly critique workshop held the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Churchill County Museum.

The goal is to provide encouragement to like-minded artists with constructive suggestions and support within a positive environment.


St. Patrick’s bingo

St. Patrick Catholic Church invites the public to play bingo in its parish hall on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo games starting at 6:15 p.m. Monetary prizes will be awarded to bingo winners. Refreshments may be purchased. Free popcorn and coffee will be available. Net proceeds will go toward the church’s building fund.

Are you a writer looking for a place to work with like-minded people? The Churchill County Library is pleased to announce its Writer’s Workshop led by Sara Dowling.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home.

So join us for a fun-filled storytime and check out books to read at home.


Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. Contact the Churchill County DA, Child Support Division at 775-423-8423. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order.

The office is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.


Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is located inside the front lobby of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, 801 E. Williams Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. The Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is owned and operated by Banner Churchill. Community Hospital Auxiliary, which is a nonprofit organization. Abused and neglected children who are removed from their families often need to live outside of their communities, away from everything familiar.

In Nevada’s rural communities, many children, including teens and sibling groups, are in need of a safe and nurturing home.

Foster parents provide a temporary home so these children can heal and feel supported.

Foster parents can be single or married, male or female. They can be working, or a stay-at-home parent. They can also be retired with grown children.

JOIN has received federal funds that will allow us to pay for your instruction, class materials, and certification fees.
