Volunteer tour guides sought at Nevada State Museum, Capitol

As the Nevada State Museum prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary on Oct. 31, the Friends of the Nevada State Museum are preparing an introductory class for volunteers and tour guides at the museum and Nevada State Capitol.

Tour guide training is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 12 and 13. Potential and continuing guides will learn about the historical treasures housed at the museum and the staff that support the museum’s programs.

The two-day, no-cost training will offer attendees the opportunity to view many of the museum’s “behind the scenes” offerings and take a walk through Nevada’s history, viewing many items that are integral parts of the state’s story. Volunteers will be able to choose where they will be a good fit, as they participate in the training.

Participants will also have the opportunity to tour the State Capitol or learn about Carson City’s history during a Blue Line walk. This class also offers hands-on tour training in the museum’s history, Mint, and Mine tour or Under One Sky tour that focuses on Nevada’s Native American history.

New and experienced docents will participate in both days of free training including a Monday potluck lunch. Registration is required.
