Google Chromebooks are being rolled out at the Churchill County Middle School soon and families are invited to the upcoming “tech night” on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the library.

“We’re excited at CCMS for the kids to be getting into their Chromebooks ASAP,” said Nate Waite, secondary technology integration coach for Churchill County School District. “We wanted to give parents and students a chance to hear about the initiative and ask questions.”

Waite said the Chromebooks initiative also includes survey data collection about technology use to make the best decisions for students and an upcoming digital citizenship course about being safe online, copyright and how to learn with computers.

“It’s a really positive thing,” Waite said about the roll-out.

He added that the high school will also be receiving the devices in the near future.

The Chromebooks will be available to try out at Tuesday’s gathering. Another training after the Chromebooks are signed out will be Sept. 5.
