Auditions planned for Carson City production of ‘Bus Stop’

Proscenium Players, Inc. is holding open auditions for its upcoming production of “Bus Stop,” the William Inge play that became the 1956 film of the same name starring Marilyn Monroe.

Actors are invited to audition at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 or 12 or at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

“Bus Stop,” a drama with romantic and comedic elements, is set in a 1955 diner in rural Kansas, during a snowstorm and showcases the relationships between the characters as they wait out the storm.

The characters are Grace Hoylard, owner of the diner, about 40 years old; Elma Duckworth, a high school girl who is Grace’s waitress; Will Masters, the local sheriff, good-hearted but tough as nails; Dr. Gerald Lyman, a charming college philosophy professor with a drinking problem; Cherie, a pretty young aspiring nightclub singer; Bo Decker, a brash young cowboy with boorish manners; Virgil Blessing, an older, wiser cowboy who plays the guitar; and Carl, the bus driver who has a “just passing through” relationship with Grace.
