It’s the season for giving and the following businesses, nonprofits and organizations are all trying to help make the holidays brighter for those in need:

Bradway Properties is hosting a gift drive to benefit Toys for Tots and Friends For All. Unwrapped gifts for children or seniors are being collected at Bradway Properties, 1000 N. Carson St., and at the business’s holiday event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, when Santa will be on hand for free photos.

Save Mart stores is again holding its annual Holiday Give. Share. CARE! Drive. At check-out, customers can tear off a coupon for $2-5 and hand it to the cashier. Coupons are added to each grocery bill, and the tax deductible contribution will be noted on the receipt. All donations go to the local food bank assigned to each store. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 27. Donors are encouraged to talk about the help they’re providing on social media by using the hash tag #SaveMartGiving.

Michael Hohl Motor Company is once again helping out Toys for Tots and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center Holiday Food Drive. Drop off unwrapped toys and food by Dec. 17 to be eligible to win one of three Walmart gift cards totaling $500. The winners will be notified by phone and announced on KBUL during its live remote at the GM dealership from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 17. Michael Hohl Motor Company is at 3700 S. Greater Nevada Credit Union’s Carson City branches are helping the Ron Wood Family Resource Center. Stop by GNCU branches at 4131 N. Carson St. or 451 Eagle Station Lane through Dec. 21 to donate nonperishable food items for local families in need. Go to www.gncu.org.

For the third year, Capitol Cab is accepting cash or toys through Dec. 18 to give to Ron Wood Family Resource Center’s Toys for Tots program. To help, simply give a Capitol Cab driver donations of toys or money. Participating drivers also are donating a portion of their tips. Call Mark at 775-230-9960.

Ron Wood Family Resource Center is working to feed hungry families this Christmas season. A tax deductible donation of $25 will provide a holiday meal for one large family. All branches of the Lyon County Library System are accepting non-perishable food as a payment for overdue fines through Dec. 31. For every fine you owe, bring in one item of non-perishable food and the library will waive one Lyon County Library System fine. Non-perishable items include canned and dried vegetables, fruits, soups, meats, and stews, boxed and dried juices and milk; flavored, pre-packaged rice and noodles, cereals, pre-packaged hot beverage and seasoning mixes. No jars.

Carson City Parks and Recreation Youth Programs is partnering with the Department of Child and Family Resources to donate new toys to Ron Wood Family Resource Center, who joined with Toys for Tots. Toys for ages 0-18 are being collected through Dec. 19 at the Carson City MAC, 1860 Russell Way; Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.; and Carson Aquatic Facility, 841 N. Roop St. The age group most in need is 10-18. Donate directly to Toys for Tots at Toysfortots.org or at the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, 2621 Northgate Lane. Boxes of See’s Candies, wrapped in holiday paper, will be sold through Christmas week to benefit senior and youth projects, scholarships for CHS students and other community projects. Carson City Host Lions, the oldest service club in the capital city, is selling the candy from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Carson Mall. Candy also can be bought at the Lions trailer across from Costco.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada are raising funds to purchase sweatshirts for each of their enrolled members in Carson City and Carson Valley. Each year near the holidays, the Clubs provide warm winter clothing to members through sponsorships from community partners. The Clubs have raised more than $2,000 toward their goal of $8,000. Pets of the Homeless is seeking donations to help homeless and their pets. Donation sites in Carson City are at Genoa Candy and Coffee Co., 4600 Snyder Ave., Suite C; Doggie Days, 3309 N. Friends To All is seeking donations for its annual Santa visits to seniors in Carson City that will take place on Saturday, Dec. 17. Donations of cash, crossword puzzle books (large print, if possible), slipper socks, gloves, hats, scarves, handkerchiefs, lotions, lip balm, calendars, packaged small food items such as candy, cookies, or nuts, gift cards from grocery or gift stores, hair salons, barbershops, or restaurants that deliver — basically anything a senior may be able to use are appreciated. Cash donations are used to purchase gift cards for grocery stores to be given to seniors in need. Donations are 501(c) (3) tax deductible and check donations should be made payable to Friends To All, Inc. A receipt will be provided. Drop-off locations are at A+ Paralegals, Inc., 411 W. Third St., Suite 1; Coldwell Banker Select, 123 W. Second St.; Bradway Properties, 1000 N. Evergreen Gene’s, 1811 N. Carson St., is hosting a sock and glove tree for the Do Drop In Center through Jan. 3. It also is accepting various clothing items, toiletries, and non perishable food items. Donations benefit area homeless. Call Gene or Rowena at 775-882-1807.

Ormsby Post Acute Rehab, at 3050 N. Ormsby Blvd., is a Toys for Tots drop-off location until Dec. 23. Call 775-841-4646.

In addition to collecting food and toys for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Meridian Insurance Services also is hosting a Home for the Holidays campaign to benefit the animal shelter in Carson City. The business is covering adoption fees for hard-to-place animals at the new shelter in hopes of finding homes for all 14 of them. Meridian Insurance Services is at 216 N.
